(PHOTOGRAPHY NOXOLO MAFU) Earlier this I had year an environmental awakening of sorts. I was on a riverboat in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta. We were headed towards Saigon, and as the tide dragged out the water level dropped. Beneath it revealed an underbelly of plastic, two metres high and thick with sludge. The water was a putrid brown, and the air above was with a foul stench. It felt moggy like the apocalypse, yet this was 2019.On my flight back to Cape Town I watched a documentary (Fashion’s Dirty Secrets) by British television journalist Stacey Dooley. ‘My sisters and I agreed to get the same tattoo of an infinity sign with three hearts on our wrists, but because middle sister lives hours my away from me and my older sister, we had to get them separately.
