editor’s letter

Have you ever been a superfan? When I was little, I was next-level obsessed with Michael Jackson. My bedroom walls were plastered with posters of him. Michael with his Bad leather biker jacket; Michael with his white Moonwalker gloves; Michael with his red Thriller shoulder pads. I saved up everything I had to subscribe to his official fan club. And, every month I waited eagerly for my Michael merchandise to arrive in the post. I watched all the box sets and all the documentaries, and I choreographed dance routines, forcing my parents and their friends to watch my performances at Sunday lunch. I genuinely thought Michael (and yes, first-name terms felt appropriate then) was destined for me, and that one day he would see me in the crowd at one of…

please, dear god, someone teach me how to shop for groceries

the cold sweats set in around 11am every Sunday. I open my fridge and see a barren wasteland of old tomato-sauce packets, which I saved for some reason, and one bag of shredded cheese that’s probably been in there a litttle too long. I order a bagel (delivery, because I’m lazy) and face the inevitable: I need to go to the supermarket. I am absolutely terrible at grocery shopping. Like, go-in-with-good-intentions-but-come-out-with-nothing-but-boxesof-instant-ramenlevel bad. At least I’m aware of my issues. Let’s start with planning. Some people spend a quality chunk of time labouring over the perfect shopping list. But when I sit down to make one, it’s like I’ve never eaten a real meal. Lasagna? Never heard of her. Baked chicken? Who is she? And before you ask, I obviously know what Pinterest…

okay, but here’s some actual help

USE INSTA ‘I follow my fave food bloggers on Instagram and save good-looking recipes when I randomly see them in my feed. It’s easier to let the ideas come to me rather than searching for something.’ -SMITA, 29 PICK TWO VEGETABLES ‘My best trick is to buy two fruits or veggies that I can repurpose for breakfast, lunch and dinner, like broccoli and asparagus, instead of buying a ton of produce.’ -LAUREN, 30 ORDER ONLINE ‘I shop on my grocery-store app, so I can double-check my fridge to make sure I’m not buying something I already have and avoid impulse buys.’ -MARIAH, 28…

does your pet even really like you?

START Is your child a dog or a cat? Cat Dog Does your cat think she’s a dog? Yes No It’s bedtime. Where’s your fur baby? That li’l floof is lying on top of me, as always. In her crate or with her secret family in another suburb. Does your beanut follow you from room to room? I feel lonely if she’s not watching me pee at 2am. Not unless I’m literally dripping in bacon grease, no. You place your fuzz muffin in your lap to snug. What happens next? She yawns and bounces. Places to be, apparently! Spins around before animorphing into my bb spoon. Have you ever found your bundelina sleeping on your clothes? Yeah, I basically accessorise with animal hair. Pretty sure you’re making up that scenario, sorry. You’re watching Netflix. What does your chicken nugget do? Puts a paw on me…

can you win our bar bathroom angel challenge?

START You’ve had the perfect number of vodka crans and no-one’s decided to climb on the bar for impromptu karaoke (yet). But then, while in line for the bathroom, you see a random girl heading for the stalls with an ‘I’m definitely gonna puke’ look. No-one else is making moves. You: 1 Stay put. You’ve been waiting for, like, half an hour, okay? 1 POINT 2 Knock on the door to make sure she’s okay. She coughs out that she’s fine; you reclaim your place in line. 2 POINTS 3 Offer to hold her hair back. That vom smell is so hard to shampoo out. 5 POINTS SHE’S DONE. BUT SHE OBVIOUSLY LOOKS UNWELL AND HAS NO FRIENDS IN SIGHT. YOU… 1 Do nothing. You don’t know her life! 1 POINT 2 Feel pretty bad for ignoring her earlier so offer…
