All models in the range feature leading performance and high safety standards. Huski, distributed by Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA), is set to launch its first range of Huski mini-excavators, featuring high break-out force and zero tail-swing. The range consists of seven models, including one 1.3-tonne short-radius machine and six zero tail-swing models ranging from 1.6-tonne through to six-tonne. Full supply of the range will be available by third-quarter (Q3) 2020, Toyota Material Handling Australia says. Huski construction equipment product manager, Matt Meddows, says the addition of excavators to the Huski range will greatly complement its current product offering. “This has been a long time coming. driver focus

Driver comfort and safety along with lower emissions are the pitch for Volvo’s new range of heavy-duty trucks, the big Swede emphasises. After another spectacular pre-launch video marketing stunt, the company put the latest iterations of the FH, FH16, FM and FMX officially on display. The company says the new range are safer, more efficient and more attractive working tools. FM and FMX get a new cab including many of the same instrument display functions as larger Volvos. Their interior volume has been increased by up to one cubic metre while larger windows, a lowered door line and new mirrors aim to improve visibility. Safety features include improved adaptive cruise control for speeds down to 0km/h and downhill cruise control that automatically activates the wheel brakes when extra brake force is needed to maintain…

hiway first on track

Queensland-based Hiway Stabilizers recently took delivery of the first P8820C ABG tracked paver in Australia from Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE). The company, which delivers stabilisation solutions for pavements, says it is the ideal tracked paver because of its capacity to lay deep passes due to the dual tamping and vibrating screed with variable width of 3-6 metres. The P8820C paver was delivered to Hiway Stabilizers general manager north Paul Rhoden and the team in Loganholme, Queensland. The P8820C ABG can pave up to 13 metres and place around 1,100 tonnes per hour. Such high levels of throughput make these pavers suitable for a wide range of applications, from municipal roads and highways to waste storage areas. They also excel in paving a range of materials, from wearing course and binder course down to…

career support

New learning opportunities and apprenticeships for young people starting out in their careers are being backed by South Australia’s construction lobby and training group, the Civil Contractors Federation South Australia (CCF SA). In a first for South Australia, the CCF SA has established its own Apprenticeship and Group Training Organisation (GTO), under the auspices of the CCF SA’s Civil Apprenticeships and Careers Ltd (CACL) entity. Under its wing, young people will have their apprenticeships owned and managed by the CACL rather than by individual companies. CCF SA says that this will limit the risk and uncertainties faced by young people when deciding to make a three-year commitment to a civil construction industry apprenticeship. The GTO will ensure high-level professional training, security of tenure, correct pay and conditions, and mentoring at a range of South…
