Noosaville-based civil earthmoving and construction company Weier Group specialises in wet plant hire, supplying premium earthmoving and roadworks services to customers throughout South East Queensland such as Seymour Whyte, Fulton Hogan, CPB Contractors, Lendlease and large civil contractors such as Shadforths. After working for eight years as a loader operator in an underground gold mine, Weier continued his passion for machinery by starting his earthmoving business with a single skid steer. He has since built it up using predominantly Komatsu excavators including one hybrid 335LC-1, a PC300LC-8, two PC138US-8, one PC45MR-3 and one PC88MR-8. Weier Group owner Gareth Weier says he has always taken a progressive approach to new machine technologies and the Komatsu iMC (intelligent Machine Control) PC210LCi-10 excavator purchase was an extension of that. “I like to be on the cutting…

waste master

FlipScreen Australia has created a series of tough, portable attachments that screen in seconds. It offers endless potential, being able to screen any material; from heavy rock, concrete and scrap metal to topsoil and sand, the FlipScreen is both effective and efficient. FlipScreen started as a humble idea with a bit of mesh on the back of a bucket, some creative genius and a lot of persistence by the company’s now managing director, Sam Turnbull. Frustrated with the lack of compact and portable screening equipment, his creation is now the basis of a company that exports to over 41 countries worldwide. WL285 WASTE MASTER FlipScreen distributor Rick Wilson says that: “There is not one municipality or council that should not have a FlipScreen.” With its outstanding versatility, the FlipScreen can be used for a…

perfect fit

The launch of Volvo´s EC200D excavator came at a perfect time for construction and development company Sunwest of the Philippines. Volvo’s new speedy machine is helping them grow and keep up with increasing customer demands. Over the past few years, Sunwest Resources, based in Legazpi City in the Albay province of the Philippines, has gradually added increasingly larger numbers of Volvo machines to its fleet. The latest addition is more than 80 units of Volvo’s EC200D excavator, which Sunwest uses at its construction materials facilities for load handling and road building work. Randolph Zuniga, general manager at Sunwest Resources, said the introduction of the EC200D was perfectly timed for Sunwest, with increasing needs for a fast, 20-ton machine optimised for general construction and with a more straightforward design. “Our company has gradually been…

new gear for bhp

The first of these excavators, a Hitachi EX5600, was added to BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance’s (BMA) Peak Downs site where the National Group handed over five Liebherr Ultra-Class T 282C trucks in September 2018. The second Excavator, a Liebherr R 996B, was delivered to its sister mine Poitrel, part of BHP’s other Queensland joint venture, BHP Mitsui Coal (BMC). The excavator is the first piece of equipment that National Group has at the coal mine. National Group founder and managing director Mark Ackroyd, was there in person to hand over the keys at both locations. “We have been working with BHP for some time now, especially at Peak Downs, so to be adding more equipment there is a testament to the machines we currently have operating for them and speaks volumes of our team…

electric pledge

Volvo Construction Equipment’s (Volvo CE) two new models of electric compact excavator (EC15 to EC27) and two models of wheel loader (L20 to L28) will be fully electric, with Volvo CE ceasing to develop any new diesel engine-based technology for these models. The move makes Volvo CE the first construction equipment manufacturer to commit to an electric future for its compact machine range, it states. This follows an overwhelmingly favourable reaction from the market after the successful unveiling of a number of concept machines in recent years. The first machines will be unveiled at the Bauma exhibition in April 2019, which is held in Munich, followed by a staged market-by-market introduction in 2020. The company says that while diesel combustion currently remains the most appropriate power source for its larger machines, electric propulsion…

cat road trip

The five Caterpillar “Next Gen” Minis on offer have certainly thrown down the gauntlet to other manufacturers in what they have to offer the discerning excavator buyer. The four “industry firsts” have put the new range of Cat mini excavators right up there to challenge for the top spot in sales throughout Australia and, to prove how confident Caterpillar are with the Next Generation mini excavators, their Qld distributors Hastings Deering are taking five of the new fleet on a South East Queensland road trip and bringing the fleet to you. Dates set for mid-February/March will witness the fleet of diggers atop the Caterpillar Logo Prime Mover heading off to a field day where you, the operator or fleet owner, can get your bum in the seat, dig away to your heart’s…
