cougar cub

Answering customer requests for a smaller compact track loader, Cougar has released the 1,560mm-wide, 3.4-tonne STL885. The multi-terrain loader is powered by a turbocharged Hyundai diesel engine delivering 65 horsepower (48,5kW). The transmission is by Sauer Danfoss, and it has Rexroth wheel drive motors. Features of the STL885 include a ROPS canopy or air-conditioned ROPS cabin, a 4-in-1 bucket as standard, and a universal quick hitch that fits 99.9 percent of all other makers’ attachments. “There are no computers or electrics with all cougars,” says Bruce Ford, the sales manager of Cougar sole distributor Skid Steers Australia. “This means there are no worries about water getting into computers or electrics getting contaminated by water, dirt or dust.” There are three operating control options for the STL885 loader: foot, hand or servo control. The machine has an…

ready, steady, go!

Western Australia-based 888 Crushing and Screening Equipment has signed an agreement with RUBBLE MASTER to distribute the Austrian company’s range of RM GO! compact crushing systems in WA, South Australia and the Northern Territory. 888CSE director Henry Neville says the company chose to enter the partnership based on the RM GO! crushers’ economic efficiency and environmental relevance, adding that the machines are very popular in recycling applications such as concrete, bricks, asphalt and glass, and in the processing of natural stone such as limestone, gravel and blue rock. The GO! concept arose through the user’s ability to earn revenue immediately, the company adds: “1-2-3 GO! Enter. Start. Earn money.” The machines, which are all one-person-operated crawler units with radio remote control, vary in weight from about 19 tonnes to 34 tonnes and have…

save your blades

Komatsu Australia has announced the release of the new Hensley Bladesaver QM wheel loader lip system for its WA500 and equivalent sized wheel loaders for quarry and mining applications. Part wear is a major productivity factor for machinery on the job site and wheel loader buckets in particular are put through strenuous work every day. Komatsu says the new Hensley Bladesaver QM provides protection along the front edge of your loader bucket, reducing replacement costs and downtime. The attachment forms a streamlined profile by fitting flush against the lip of the bucket with large teeth that provide increased load penetration, resulting in reduced wear on the base lip. The underside of the lip is completely smooth which reduces resistance that results in tyre wear and uncomfortable jolts for the operator. This also helps…

Hysoon has updated its HY380 mini skid steer loader, making it easier to operate and giving it a greater tipping capacity and a higher dump height. Higher torque is delivered via piston-type hydraulic motors, the company says. The machine has a 23-horsepower (17kW) engine, a load weight of 200kg, a bucket capacity of 0.15 cubic metres and an operating weight of between 940kg (with solid tyres) and 1068kg (with tracks). Its hitch backing plate is designed to integrate with that of the main mini loaders on the market, which means it can use a wide variety of attachments and can fit in to any fleet. Hysoon makes more than 20 different kinds of attachments available to suit the HY380, including backhoe, broom, high dump bucket, rotary hoe, lawmower, hydraulic grapple, trencher, 4 in…

Hitachi is auctioning five mini excavators in January and February to raise money for The Humpty Dumpty Foundation, which helps hospitals buy the equipment needed to put sick kids back together again. The company aims to raise $50,000 through the auction, which it says will be used immediately to buy vital children’s medical equipment. All registered bidders who place a bid during the auction period will also have the chance to win a Hitachi refrigerator or a range of Hitachi power tools. A number of Hitachi organisations, including Hitachi Australia, Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia, Hitachi Power Tools Australia and Hitachi Construction Machinery Japan —as well as Marubeni Finance and other suppliers — have combined resources to create the competition. “The Humpty Dumpty Foundation touches more people than we know, raising money behind the scenes…

Advanced Forest Equipment’s SS Eco Mulcher, an attachment that lets skid steer loaders “annihilate” weeds, shrubs and trees, is being brought into Australia by Makin Traks. With features such as universal fitting, robust construction and high visibility, Makin Traks owner/director Daz Scale sees the mulcher as the next big thing. Scale says their attachment to the AFE product (pun intended) began when they imported a Caterpillar 299D XHP compact track loader with an SS Eco Mulcher attached. “We weren’t entirely familiar with the mulcher but we had heard many good reports about the attachment in regards to its productivity and efficiency,” he says. “Once we got our hands on the machine and the attachment it was a no brainer ... it was a fantastic combination to watch.” The thing that really impressed the Makin…
