small wonder

Bobcat distributor Clark Equipment has confirmed that the T595 compact track loader – the newest model in the popular 500-frame size – is now available in Australia. The Bobcat T595 is just 172cm wide when fitted with a standard bucket and is suited to work in cramped, urban construction sites. The track loader is powered by a 55.2kW Tier 4 turbocharged diesel engine. Bobcat says this is the most power of any loader in its size class and, with improved pushing and digging power, can eliminate the need to move to a larger machine. The T595 has a rated operating capacity of 998kg, with the machine itself weighing in at just over 3.5 tonnes. Available in single-speed or two-speed options, the two-speed machine has a top travelling speed of 16.7 km/h – a…

tree eater

WC2500TX tracked whole tree chipper Vermeer has introduced the WC2500TX tracked whole tree chipper, a compact machine with a tracked undercarriage to aid manoeuvrability on tough land-clearing sites. Although compact in design, the WC2500TX packs a 448kW diesel configured to US Tier 4 Final/EU Stage IV emissions standards. A US Tier 3/EU Stage III version is also available for markets without more stringent regulations, such as Australia. The Vermeer chipper can be equipped with either a ‘microchip’ drum that produces chip sizes of between 3.2mm and 15.9mm, or a ‘macrochip’ drum that produces chips of between 15.9mm and 31.8mm. Vermeer says that the addition of the WC2500TX model greatly expands the variety of jobs its machines can perform. “The release of the WC2500TX continues to solidify our presence in the biomass and land-clearing markets,” Vermeer product…

giant gehl

Gehl has launched the 750 articulated wheel loader – the company’s largest model – in Australia and New Zealand. Gehl says that, at 55kW, the 750 represents the company’s expansion into the 40-60kW size class of loader. That power comes from a Tier 4 Deutz diesel engine which uses a diesel oxidation catalyst after-treatment system, meaning users can choose their preferred emissions system. Being an articulated loader, the 750 can turn at angles up to 45 degrees and oscillate up to 10 degrees thanks to a heavy-duty articulation joint. The bucket and tyres follow a constant turning radius, so the rear tyres follow the path of the front tyres. An open ROPS canopy is standard on the 750, with a complete cabin enclosure also available. The operator is positioned above the load, which gives him…

sorting it out

MB Crusher has launched the fourth edition of its MB-S14 screening bucket, which it says has been redesigned and reinforced to extend its operating life. The company points out that being able to sort inert material that gathers on site quickly and efficiently is a big part of being competitive for today’s construction and demolition contractors. Recycling material for use in another area can save a lot in material costs, and selling excess materials can be another vital revenue stream. The MB-S14 screening bucket is designed for use on excavators between 9 and 20 tonnes and is particularly suited to small or medium size sites, the company says. The MB-S14 has compact dimensions of 1700 x 1400 x 1440mm, weighs in at just over one tonne, and can take 1.1 cubic metres of heaped…

heavyweight champ

We are very excited to see what it can achieve in Australia – especially in combination with our new giant A60 articulated hauler Volvo’s new mining champion, the 90-tonne EC950E excavator, has helped Indonesian customer PT Samudera Mulia Abadi (SMA) boost productivity by up to 30 per cent – and it’s now available in Australia. Mining contractor SMA won a tender in 2015 to handle operations at the Toka Tindung gold mine in Manado, North Sulawesi, and last year chose Volvo as its exclusive machine supplier. After early success, this year the company brought the first two units of the EC950E excavator to Indonesia, and Volvo’s new heavyweight soon delivered what it calls “extraordinary productivity improvements”. “Since we introduced the EC950E, our fleet productivity has gone up by 25 to 30 per cent,” Manado…

backhoe to the future

BMW’s Designworks has teamed up with John Deere to design a next-generation backhoe The Designworks/John Deere backhoe utilises new-age materials and technological innovations to create a revolutionary concept through a design process known as ‘Fixstern’. According to Designworks, ‘Fixstern’ or ‘fixed star’ is a holistic and innovative research and design process that has been pioneered by BMW. The collaboration between John Deere and Designworks wasn’t without its challenges, with the design brief stipulating that the backhoe must be highly capable and robust while reducing overall weight by no less than 20 per cent and reducing environmental impact by 10 per cent. The design also demanded an elevated user experience, the achievement of which would be dependent on user interaction and improved spaciousness. In addition, the backhoe also needed to be flexible and versatile…
