igolf takes over golf tips

It's an honor and privilege to announce that on March 6, 2020, iGolf Sports Network fully acquired Golf Tips Magazine. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I'm Ted Odorico, founder and CEO of iGolf Sports Network LLC. I'm excited to take over as senior editor and publisher of Golf Tips Magazine. I would also like to recognize the former editor, Vic Williams, and the many talented professionals who contributed their time and expertise, which helped make Golf Tips Magazine a success for 32 years. What will this new change of ownership mean for subscribers? A renewed promise to provide subscribers the highest quality of print and digital content that they have long enjoyed for the past 32 years. moving from the range to the first tee

This is one of the many challenges faced by all levels of golfers, who continue to be frustrated by this transition. The answer to this question involves several possible mistakes golfers often make. With a little tweaking, you can make a successful transition from the range to the course! One reason for poor transition from the range to the game is purpose. While on the range before a round, you are usually trying to get comfortable with your swing. You are trying to see how it feels that particular day, searching for some swing key, etc. However, when you get to the tee during a game, it’s all about performing: hitting a good golf shot, avoiding trouble, and trying to make as few strokes as possible. With such different purposes, it’s…

playing the brain game

Most golfers use the strokes they take on the golf course to assess whether they are improving. Utilizing handicap strokes and seeing the trend of the handicap is another assessment. But scoring your mental game is an effective way to assess how well you are regulating emotions when challenges arise during the course of a round. Even scoring how good your decision making was or committing to your decision brings a sense of awareness that most golfers wouldn’t recognize otherwise. After a round, analyze how many errant shots occurred due to poor course strategy, indecisiveness, or selecting the wrong strategy for the shot at hand. Learning to improve our decisions, being clear-minded when we are flooded with emotions, and committing to and trusting the choices we make can certainly save…

One of the best things you can do for yourself is to find out what type of learning style you respond best to. While the validity of learning styles has long been debated by neuroscientists, many great educators feel they are not only valid but invaluable for teaching and learning. Knowing your learning style can increase your awareness during practice and lessons and on course play. Let’s say you need to go somewhere you have never been. You don’t know how to get there and are not allowed to use a map or your GPS. Would you want to: 1. Be told how to get there? 2. Read written directions? 3. Look at a map? This is a simple way to discern which learning style you might be. I have created a longer version that…

powering up with fast eddie!

Make sure the distance between left knee and right hip remains constant in the backswing. When right hip turns, left knee moves in conjunction. Pretend there is a rope tied from right hip to left knee and move in sync. The distance between right hip and left knee should NEVER increase. This would cause lower body restriction and an unathletic move. Backswing—right hip fully turned, right leg extended to allow athletic rotation AND left knee is behind ball with left heel lifted due to rotation of right hip and left knee working in unison. This is a very powerful position. Address position ready to initiate backswing with right hip rotation. Athletic move by rotating right hip. Left knee follows, which, in turn, allows for a full shoulder turn and left heel lifted. From…

the decision

As our country rebounds from the COVID-19 crisis, the safety of the world, along with the success of the global markets, will eventually come down to our world leaders and one decision: How and when to reopen the economy? Decisions made during crisis can lead to success or failure in all aspects of life, and I can think of no better way to experience the thrills and agony of the decision-making process than by playing a round of golf. As a PGA teaching professional for over 20 years, I believe that the most important decision a golfer has to make on the golf course is the decision they make after a poor shot. Think about it. If I hit a drive in the middle of the fairway 100 yards from the…
