PAMELA GOODMAN Travel editor Q What did you do prior to your current role? ‘I worked as the honeymoon editor of Condé Nast Brides magazine, which meant I went on 28 honeymoons with my prospective husband before I finally married him.’ Pamela Goodman has been House & Garden’s travel editor for 23 years, first joining as managing editor. She attributes the start of her career in travel to being in the right place at the right time, and she has since trotted across islands, mountains and cobbled alleys in all corners of the world in search of ‘an incredible experience that can etch a destination permanently onto your soul’. ‘Art in a room is hugely important,’ says William Yeoward, our backpage ‘Tastemaker’ this month (page 160). I tend to agree with him; without it, a room can seem bland and impersonal. Not only do pictures tell their own stories, bringing depth and layers of interest to a room, they can also, from a purely decorative point of view, bring colour and a focal point. I do appreciate that not everybody is as acquisitive as I am, but it does not have to be about spending lots of money. In my case, art consists of everything from a tiny watercolour found at a car-boot sale for £4 to a large landscape bought in a St James’s gallery.
