let the truth prevail

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”– John 14:6 So 2018 has arrived. Wow! Time is passing by very quickly. I take this opportunity to wish every reader a blessed new year. My personal goal is to try make every day matter this year. We are all allotted a certain amount of days on this beautiful earth, so it makes absolute sense that we should make the most of every opportunity to store up heavenly treasures. These are gained by every good work, act of service, and demonstration of love and care towards others – and most importantly drawing closer to our Lord Jesus Christ. We do this by reading His Word and in prayer. The…

the word in private

“Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly.” – Mark 7:31-35. This is often how the Lord ministers to us, in private. He takes us aside from the crowd and the noise of the multitude, and there alone with God, He puts His fingers in our ears by His Spirit, and touches our tongue so that it is loosed…

rebuilding a broken nation

We have seen the devastation of bribery, corruption, and state-capture in our nation. It is therefore not a time for the Church to join the negative populace, but rather use this as an opportunity to focus on being the solution. The Church has the power to bring down the strongholds of injustice and lawlessness by erecting a strong platform of prayer that will herald an era of peace and prosperity. We are a nation in transition and 2018 has significant meaning in its numerology. Focussing on the number eight, it was the 8th day of the week that Jesus was resurrected from the grave. We will only see the physical resurrection of our nation through unity in the Church and prayer. Eight also signifies anointing, and this speaks to us of…

there’s power in your knees

The Leprosy Mission has a network of thousands of faithful intercessors. You’re standing next to the bed of a patient, stethoscope in hand. You’re about to listen to her pulse, when you become violently sea sick. But you’re not on a boat. You’re in the middle of a hospital ward in a boisterous city. You freeze in horror as you realise why you’re so nauseous. The ground beneath your feet has turned to jelly. You’re in the Himalayas and an earthquake is screaming through the valley. The earth heaves like a storm-tossed ocean. You lose your balance and collapse to the floor. The walls of the hospital crumble, the roof collapses, and you and your patients are buried under tonnes of debris, choking on dust, bewildered by the impenetrable darkness. Your professional…

letters to the editor

EDITOR@JOYMAG.CO.ZA TESTIMONY GOD HAS HEALED ME! Thank you for an inspiring magazine. In May 2015 I was involved in a car accident. My dad was with me and he passed away. I fractured my pelvis, ribs, and behind my left ear. I didn’t know that my dad had passed away, hence I didn’t attend his funeral. I lost memory of everything after gaining consciousness. I could feel that my life was going and I was meeting death. All I remember was that there is a God. So I began to pray, ‘Jesus please help me, Jesus please help me.’ At the time I didn’t even know that I had been in an accident. I could hear sirens and lots of noise. I didn’t know I was in a car on the side of…

tendai chitsike

Renowned Christian thinker Francis Schaeffer declared: “Christians, in the last 80 years or so, have only been seeing things as bits and pieces that have gradually begun to trouble them and others, instead of understanding that they are the natural outcome of a change from a Christian worldview to a humanistic one; things such as overpermissiveness, pornography, the problem of the public schools, the breakdown of the family, abortion, infanticide, increased emphasis upon the euthanasia of the old, and many, many other things.” Though with a different time frame, this statement rings true in South Africa as well. 2017 alone saw the advancing values of a humanist worldview imposing itself on the Church, the home, and the school. This was probably most clearly spelled out in the case of YG…
