Back to the .22LR?
I HAVE two firearms that have above normal value to me; one is a Mannlicher Schoenauer (1922) in 6.5x54mm (no, it’s not a carbine) and the other is a Unique Model L ‘Combo’ pistol/carbine (mid-1960s) in .22lr. I have spent a small fortune on the Mannlicher. For example, about 20 years ago, the die set cost me R950 (the price tag is still on the case), while that of a mainstream calibre like .308Win cost only R180. I only managed to track down the die set after a two-year search. My first batch of Norma brass (20 used cases bought over the telephone) set me back more than the cost of 20 brand new .404 cases I bought at a gun shop in Johannesburg at the same time. To my…
