‘It’s been a lifelong goal to make it into MotoGP’JAKE DIXON ON HIS GOLDEN CHANCE TOP STORY ‘Tiger could be big overnight hit’ Triumph’s brilliant Trident 660 is one of sweetest and happiest motorcycles you could hope to welcome into your life. But it’s pretty short on practicality. How much more versatile and pleasing would it be with a decent little fairing and screen, a more lofty riding perch and some decent panniers? Well, it looks like we’re about to find now that Triumph have officially confirmed a new Tiger Sport 660 is on the way... SEE PAGE 4 MCN250 TEST Everyday thrill-seekers Super-nakeds are a strange breed. Full-on heart-straining superbike performance mixed with an upright seating position and little in the way of wind protection. It’s a bonkers idea – but it works confusingly well.…

‘we all have the chance to see history made’

The addictive power of the up-to-the-second social media tsunami, combined with superb live coverage from BT Sport and Dorna, might make it hard to summon the enthusiasm to watch the British GP from anywhere other than the comfort of your sofa. It’s also a decent journey for all but the most local fans, then there’s the cost of tickets, fuel, burgers and beverages, and a team shirt you’ll probably never wear again. And don’t forget that you always forget to take sun cream, and how much a sunburnt forehead and ears make pulling a helmet on for the ride home decidedly ouchy. But this year, of all years, you have to make the pilgrimage. Buy a ticket, take a packed lunch to save a fortune, buy a team hat instead of a…

commendable behaviour

An Essex biker has received a Chief Constable’s Commendation for helping two police officers he spotted struggling with three violent individuals in Colchester in 2019. Steven Hodder was riding his motorbike when he noticed a police car and a commotion. Mr Hodder said: “I didn’t think twice about getting involved because police officers were getting attacked. I would do it again. Those people attacking them were bullies and I don’t like bullies.” Another Rossi is on the way! Valentino Rossi has announced that he is expecting his first child with partner Francesca Sofia Novello. The 42-year-old made the revelation via social media with a photo that had us all thinking we’d popped back to the 1990s. As well as the FHM-esque photoshoot, Rossi also confirmed the news with a short caption adding…

trident engine for new tiger

NEWS EDITOR In a surprise announcement, Triumph have unveiled their Tiger Sport 660 – a brand-new sports-tourer based on the popular Trident 660 platform. Just as the Trident was built to take on the dominance of Yamaha’s MT-07 in the middleweight naked category, so the Tiger Sport 660 is poised to take on the Tracer 7 for the middleweight sports-tourer crown. So far Triumph have remained tight-lipped about the new machine but just casting an eye over the barely-disguised prototype reveals an awful lot. For starters the engine appears visually identical, so we’d expect near identical performance of 80bhp @ 10,250rpm. It’s possible Triumph will have given the innards a little tweak for a retune but it’s just as likely they’ll have left it well alone – if it ain’t broke etc.…

garner faces prosecution

Stuart Garner, a former owner and director of Norton Motorcycles, is facing prosecution for investments made into the business by three pension schemes for which he was the sole trustee. Garner, 52, has been accused of breaching Employer Related Investment (ERI) rules for investing more than five percent of assets from each of the three schemes into Norton Motorcycle Holdings Ltd. Garner was the sole trustee for three Defined Contribution schemes: Dominator 2012, Commando 2012 and Donington MC, which have 227 members. The investments were made between 2012 and 2013, in return for preference shares. The ERI rules set out that, subject to certain exceptions, not more than 5% of the current market value of the pension scheme assets may be invest in ERI at any time. gold cup cancelled

MCN ROAD RACING REPORTER Racing at England’s only road race venue, Oliver’s Mount in Scarborough, has been dealt another blow as the organisers have cancelled September’s Gold Cup meeting. June’s Barry Sheene festival and last month’s Oliver’s Mount festival had already been called off after inspections carried out by Scarborough Council following the Spring Cup races in May had concluded that many of the paddock buildings at the Yorkshire parkland track were “structurally unsound and unsafe for public use.” The Gold Cup was rescheduled for September 18-19 and race boss Andy Hayes vowed to run the event “no matter what happens” but safety and insurance issues have now brought the curtain down completely on action at the 2.43-mile circuit for 2021. “With much regret, we have to admit defeat and cancel the Hill Climb…
