hello !

Hold on a sec while I take a deep breath…! I’m loving all the summer fun with my two scamps, but at the end of the day – when the giggles and games, the tears and my endless attempts to cool everyone down enough to sleep, are all over – I collapse on the sofa and wonder if I’ve got the energy to do it all over again tomorrow. But it only takes a quick swipe through the day’s photos on my phone to know I’m absolutely up for making more happy smiles, even if it’s hard work sometimes. And after reading the stories from mums who’ve had another baby a decade after their first (page 92), I understood how precious these smiley moments with my kids are, and how important…

nice one, dad!

You might think he doesn’t listen to you half the time, but new research has found your partner is super-sensitive to how good a dad you think he is. The study, from Ohio State University, found that dads engaged less with their baby when their parenting skills had been criticised by their other halves. It’s thought that if a dad feels his partner doesn’t have confidence in his parenting, he may become less positive with their child. So, next time you’re secretly admiring his ninja nappy-changing skills, let him know! ‘I’ve done pregnancy before, and you’d think I would be a dab hand at it with all the experience I’ve been lucky enough to have. But I have never lived through being heavily pregnant in the summer. My past third trimesters were spent gearing up for Christmas and enjoying my tummy rounding out like Santa’s, then relishing the January lull knowing that a new arrival was just around the corner. My summer pregnancy isn’t quite like that. It’s hot and there are less clothes for a start, meaning my usual layered maternity look simply doesn’t work – not unless I want to sweat buckets in the sweltering heat. And so I’ve talked to lots of other mums, because it really is wonderful to take advice from those who’ve gone through the…

over to you...

Our favourite! It’s a wrap! Here’s a photo of me and my daughter Ava, three weeks, reading our Mother&Baby mag at a Medela Breastfeeding Café event. It’s the first time I’ve tried baby-wrapping and, while I love cuddling Ava, it’s heaven to be hands-free and still have her close! I want to make the most of her while she’s tiny and wants to be with me, but I like to feel productive, too, so reading Mother&Baby during cuddles works really well for both of us.
