Progress! Going on maternity leave and returning to work can be an emotional experience for many reasons, but now there could be one less thing to worry about. Under new government plans backed by Theresa May, pregnant women and new parents could be set to receive greater protection from redundancy. The consultation proposes to extend the legal protection against redundancy for up to six months after a return to work, and extend it to parents returning from adoption leave or shared parental leave. Time to redecorate! Got the spring itch to spruce up your home? Swedish brand Newbie has launched Bedtime Stories, a limited-edition collection of wallpaper, bedding and matching nightwear featuring prints from a dreamy rose garden or enchanting forest friends. My definition of happiness has changed since becoming a mum. The central axis of my heart and soul seems to have gone through a massive shift, leaving nothing as it was before. You are changed (definitely). Altered (yep). Bettered (possibly… I’d like to think so). I’m flooded with new challenges, experiences and emotions – meaning the moments that fill me with the most amount of joy might seem small and trivial to others, but are everything to me. Many things bring a smile to my face and a warmness to my heart, and motherhood (and getting older) brings the knowledge (or possibly the acceptance) that it really is the little things that make me the happiest. Years ago, happiness probably would have been in going to certain parties, meeting ‘cool’ people,…

join our #mumtribe

Here at M&B HQ, we’ve been getting pretty tired of seeing all those too-good-to-be-true family photos on social, so we thought we’d gather all of us real mums together, and do something about it! #mumtribe is where real mums like you and us get together to share what life is really like as a mum. It’s a closed Facebook group, so only other mums who’ve signed up can see what you post. And we pop all the photos into a gallery so you can see that life for all of us other mums is just the same as it is for you. Which we reckon will help us all feel like we’re doing a fab job at this mum business, instead of wondering why our lives seem so chaotic next…

embarrassing!

This photo was taken back in June when I was in hospital, waiting to be induced. I spent the whole journey there crying my eyes out, because I had to leave my first-born baby girl, 16 months, for the first time. But then I read your feature The A-Z of Labour Pain Relief. The suggestion for ‘F’ was ‘Flick the Bean.’ I didn’t know what this meant, so I asked my midwife, who laughed nervously and said, ‘I’ll leave that to your husband to explain!’ By which point I had read the explanation in the magazine, and couldn’t stop laughing. Thanks very much for cheering me up! LAURA BRATHERTON, VIA #MUMTRIBE Laura wins the ultimate bundle of earth-friendly baby essentials from Kit & Kin, worth over £150 and including a supply of…
