It can be a blow when your baby’s first word is ‘da-da’ instead of ‘mama’. But new research has revealed he’s not actually calling out for Daddy, he’s just enjoying the sound of his voice. The D in ‘da-da’ just happens to be one of the first sounds babies can produce, and is easier to say than the M in ‘mama’. The study, published in the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, found a baby uses the sounds he’s previously babbled, rather than the sounds that are most common in the words adults use with him. Researchers found that these sounds were not common in deaf babies, but once they were fitted with hearing aids, their babbling developed.…
