Hello! Cheesy Christmas CDs ready? Check. Santa hats? Check. More mince pies than anyone could ever possibly eat? Check. Yes, that can only mean one thing: the big day is almost here! And the funny thing is, while most of us grown ups say ‘Christmas is for kids’, it’s usually us lot who make all the fuss about it. I know that these days in our house, it’s definitely honours even between Mummy and Daddy and my two boys, Dan and Matt, as to who gets the giddiest. But when my boys were tiny, particularly their first couple of Christmases, it was us grown ups who got most excited. I love remembering Dan being dressed up as a little reindeer tucking in to Christmas Dinner on his first Christmas Day, and…

I absolutely love Christmas. It’s my favourite time of year. Family, food, and just chilling together: I love it all and, as soon as Halloween is done, I’m on it. It’s the whole build-up I love, as well as the day. And I know that the advent calendar is going to be Summer’s favourite thing because she goes mad for a bit of Cadbury’s! I’m not sure she’ll understand she can’t have more than one chocolate at a time, but I’m getting my own – I’m not sharing! I was upset with my…

instant calm…

‘Christmas can be a really busy time, especially if you have extra houseguests or are cooking a huge dinner. So if you’re starting to feel a bit frazzled, make sure you take some time to pause and recharge,’ says Chireal. ‘Take a quiet moment, even if it’s just 30 seconds when you go to the bathroom. First, take a deep breath, then clench your fists tightly together. Breathe out as you release and you will feel instantly calmer.’ • Chireal Shallow is the author of The Gentle Sleep Solution (£10.99, Ebury Publishing) and runs naturallynurturing.co.uk PHOTOGRAPHY GETTY, ISTOCKPHOTO, SHUTTERSTOCK, JACQUES PORTAL…

take it from me…

‘Christmas is always a big family occasion, so I try and involve my daughters, Fiamma, three, and Serafina, 18 months, as much as possible. If the adults have a cocktail for a toast, I’ll make them one using apple and orange juice, sparkling water and elderflower. I’ll serve it in a fancy glass with a straw and they absolutely love being involved. ‘When my daughters first started weaning, I’d adapt our dinner for them by puréeing turkey and veg with some Christmas spices, such as nutmeg or cinnamon, to introduce them to new flavours, or I’d chop veg a bit finer. Now they like to try the whole Italian festive feast, which includes everything from smoked salmon and prosciutto to snails! ‘We have loads of people round, and six or seven…
