welcome

I’ve spent my first day on the beach this year, so as far as I’m concerned summer’s definitely here. It was a bit blowy – it was Norfolk, after all – but we had a fabulous time, looking for mini beasts (beetles and the like, to you and me) in the sand dunes and splashing around in the sea. I just wish I’d had our guide to rock-pooling (p65), I’m definitely taking it with me next time we head to the coast. It’s got everything you need to know to help your toddler get the crabs to come out to play, find creatures hidden beneath the sand, and even hunt for the world’s longest animal! This is probably my favourite time of year, with long days filled with sandy sandwiches on…

take care of you too!

We know that your baby will become your whole world from the second she’s born, and naturally you’ll focus on her. But it’s really important to look after yourself as well, particularly in that very first month after giving birth when your body is busy readjusting after pregnancy and labour. And that’s why we love the ‘10th month’ concept thought up by nappy-cream guru, Bepanthen. Its new online hub, 10thmonth.co.uk , was created to support new mums post-birth, encouraging them to take as much care of themselves in the 10th month of this magical journey, as they did in the ninth month. Makes sense to us! PHOTOGRAPHY ALAMY, GETTY, ISTOCKPHOTO, SHUTTERSTOCK…

take it from me…

Each month a mum in the public eye shares her experiences since having a baby. Here, television presenter Helen Skelton, who had her first child, Ernie, in June last year, has some great advice about being a relaxed mum….. ‘Ernie was five months old when we relocated to the South of France. Friends and family thought we were mad, but for us it’s an adventure. It means we spend a lot of time going back and forth to the UK, which could be a nightmare, but we try and turn everything into a positive experience. ‘If we’re on the train, I tell him stories about the creatures that might live in the woods, and on planes we play counting games and wave at bored passengers. ‘My life has no routine, and when Ernie…

make this

Lolly-stick puzzle Get her to paint her own puzzle – it’s much more fun to play with when she’s made it! 1 Line up six wooden craft sticks edge to-edge. Secure in place with two strips of masking tape or sticky tape. 2 Turn over and place a cookie cutter centrally on top of the sticks. 3 Press down firmly on the cookie cutter, so it doesn’t move, and get your youngster to paint inside it. 4 Leave to dry then remove the tape. Jumble up the sticks and get your toddler to try to put the circle together.…

real mum review!

These gourmet baby-food pouches from Piccolo combine natural ingredients and herbs to create tasty baby food with a twist. Flavours include Squash, Red Pepper & Chickpea with a hint of rosemary, and Peach & Apple with a hint of basil. Mum of one, Claire Williams, says her daughter Arielle loves them: ‘The fruit ones are great to mix with natural yoghurt, and the savoury ones went down a treat with Arielle. I was quite surprised, as she’s not usually a fan of pouches, and I just assumed she only liked my cooking. I’d recommend these to other mums and will definitely buy them again.’ £1.10 for 100g, mylittlepiccolo.co.uk…
