With boundless energy and enthusiasm, South African ELR competitors and competitors from neighbouring, Namibia, headed off to the KO1M SA and KO2M SA 2022 event at King of Karoo Plains Shooting range at the New Holme Guest Lodge in Hanover, Northern Cape from 24 to 27 August. The other noticeable point here is that KO2M SA participation has escalated to the same level as KO1M SA. Registration numbers are neck on neck, which shows growth in the South African ELR world. It is inevitable we will have to double the KO2M SA qualification range next year, just like we do for the KO1M SA, or else it will be a struggle to get through the number of participants in a day. So, next year we will have to purchase a duplicate set of targets and erect another set of target stands in the field. It is quite funny. A large contingent of shooters travelled from the Western Cape to Hanover in the Northern Cape, about 700 km one way. At this event 26 (out of 49) Western Cape shooters competed in the KO1M event and 23 (out of 48) in the KO2M match. Most shooters chose to take part in both events to gain experience and shoot more rounds. This strong provincial representation is due to the vibrant ELR shooting community in the Western Cape. To display unity, we had Send IT branded caps and jackets made for all Cape Town based shooters. On the front of the caps the phrase ‘WIND WARS’ was embroidered in a bold font. The WP Open Bisley Championship is a three-day event held annually in October, attracting a combination of the best local and national shooters to the Good Hope Shooting Range near Atlantis. Many of the shooters at the event participate in the annual South African Open Championships, normally held in Bloemfontein around the end of March. This year was no exception, with the field featuring several previous WP and SA Open Bisley champions. The event took place from 5 to 8 October 2022.
