Hello, I’m Vicky, the first editor of Inside Soap back in 1992 – and I’m delighted to be asked back to say a few words for this 1000th issue! “No one was sure the idea would work!” Amazing as it may seem, when the idea of a magazine devoted purely to soap was first mooted, I wasn’t too sure it would work. And when I started putting that first issue together, I discovered the soaps weren’t sure either! But we all agreed to give it a go – and thank heavens we did! Nervous Rishi gets himself into a terrible flap this week, as he prepares to take his romance with new lady friend Manpreet to the next level. He’s incredibly nervous about spending the night with Manpreet for the first time, so enlists the help of his friends in organising the perfect evening for her. First up, it’s Nicola who makes suggestions on how to impress Manpreet, before Frank steps in with some styling tips. The big date eventually goes to plan, and the nervous couple end up in bed – but the next day things are awkward between them. Is Manpreet still interested in Rishi? Or might he have done something to put her off?…

Duffy is distraught this week, when she wakes up next to old flame Bill. Saying that they’ve made a terrible mistake, she insists he has to go – and that they mustn’t see one another again. Even when potential disaster looms… “A few years back, we had to take an actual London bus stop from Wembley to Leeds, for an Emmerdale shoot,” he recalls. “The day before, we went to load it into the van – only to find it was two inches too big to fit! These days, he meets movie stars, music legends and television royalty for ITV’s Good Morning Britain – but Richard Arnold cut his showbiz teeth on the features team of this very magazine, back in the 90s! “Inside Soap was where it all began for me!” he shares. “It felt a natural home, as I’d always loved telly. For 15 years, Jason Herbison was our man in Australia, reporting on the goings-on in their soaps. When we meet with Inside No 9 ’s Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton to talk about their latest instalment of the show – a live Halloween special – it’s appropriately in the middle of a London cemetery. Hi, Rob! This week sees a whole episode of Corrie devoted to Daniel finding out about Sinead’s cancer. How did you feel when you heard that? I was just delighted! It was a real vote of confidence – not only in us, but in the characters – that the bosses thought it could support a whole half-hour episode.
