FRIDAY 1/13 A Series of Unfortunate Events Neil Patrick Harris stars, produces and even sings the theme for this ambitious project based on the blackly comic Lemony Snicket novels about three plucky orphans. (Eight episodes cover four books.) Stylized and dazzling in the vein of a Tim Burton movie, this Series plays more broadly than the 2004 Jim Carrey flick. Fending off greedy guardian Count Olaf (a moustache-twirling Harris), the Baudelaires — Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes) and baby Sunny — are a bit lackluster. Their throwback adventures however, incorporate some delightfully oddball characters: Joan Cusack charms as a sympathetic judge in a wacky bench wig.
