be different from the world

“The Lord abhors dishonest scales, but accurate weights are His delight. The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.”– Proverbs 11:1,3 Here at JOY we get to interact with so many different Christian individuals and organisations each day. Sadly, it is not always a pleasant experience. Christians are called to be honest, diligent, kind, hardworking, and God-honouring folks and employees – so why are so many not? Every day we experience disappointment, and it can be very hurtful, expensive, and annoying. I have concluded that it’s because not all followers of Christ are reading the Word of God and allowing it to influence and direct their behaviour. We have been given the mandate by Jesus to be ambassadors for Him…

doing the obvious

On the beautiful island of Bermuda there is a rock hanging on a rope with a large sign beside it that says, “Weather Station: Check the Rock. If it’s wet, it’s raining. If it’s moving, it’s windy. If you can’t see it, it’s foggy. If the rock is gone, it’s a hurricane.” It may not be modern technology but at least it’s reliable! The best way to get the latest weather report is to look out the window! Some things in life are obvious. And yet it is amazing how the obvious can stare us in the face and still we don’t see it. And sometimes, with God, instead of “looking out the window” where the answer is staring us in the face, we want a special sign from…

the month in christian history saint augustine

He was born in 354, in a North African town set among the woods near the Mediterranean. His father was a pagan, but his mother, Monica, was of devout Christian stock. Augustine was an undisciplined child; idle and truant, despite frequent beatings. He loved sports and pranks and soon discovered a host of adolescent pleasures. When he was fifteen, his father saw him in the public baths and realised his son was a man. He was. He later wished that “the high tides of my youth had spent their foam upon the shore of marriage.’ Augustine was also brilliant, and he soon moved to Carthage to further both his studies and his fun. Monica warned him against fornication, but “I ran headlong with blindness.” At about eighteen he found…

corruption runs deeper than we think

Shortly before Christmas, I had an eye-opening conversation in one of my happier places to visit as far as shopping goes: a bookshop. After having scanned popular titles in the various sections of ‘religion,’ ‘biography’, ’best sellers’, and more, I was intrigued by a rather unusual collection of books grouped together, behind the till. The group contained Bibles, titles by popular Christian authors, and journalist Jacques Pauw’s best seller, The President’s Keepers. I couldn’t help but imagine what this collection of books had in common, and why they were separated from other sections that they ‘should’ have fitted into (no, I didn’t study library science). So I plucked up the courage to ask this seemingly random question. I was taken aback by the reply. Politely, the shop assistant satisfied…

godliness will lead you forward

In the midst of a rapidly changing world, every Christian should be in a constant state of prayer as the Lord unfolds powerful prophetic revelation. I am very aware of huge spiritual activity both on the side of dark forces as well as the presence of holy angels (Heb 1:14) surrounding us. This is a call to all Christ followers to exercise their spiritual authority through constant and continuous prayer. In April we always celebrate our covenant with God through the Passover season. The power released through the blood of Jesus is the foundation of our spiritual authority and is empowered through prayer and spiritual warfare. We need to realise that we are truly overcomers because of our covenant with the Father. The revelation of our covenant power releases…

a prophetic word for cyril ramaphosa

"The Spirit of the Lord says to Cyril, “Cyril, did I not put My Spirit upon you in your yesterday? Did I not cause My words to burn bright inside of you in your yesterday? Cyril, where are you My son? It is time for you to come back to Me, in a new way, in a fresh way, to come back to your first love, like you have never experienced Me before. And if you will do this, I will give you great wisdom. If you will do this, I will cause you to prophesy. If you will do this, I will cause you to speak words, yes words that carry the power of My Spirit. Then I shall lift you up, and then I shall bring exhalation…
