sunday update

• THE family of murdered former Hard Livings gang boss Rashied Staggie wants justice, not revenge. This is according to Staggie’s brother Solomon, who quoted Romans 12:19 while speaking at Rashied’s funeral, who had converted to Christianity. The Jubilee Community Church was roughly two thirds full as mourners followed the extensive convoy from Staggie’s Salt River home after a private viewing for family. London Road was flooded with neighbours and onlookers as Staggie’s bedazzled coffin was carried out of the house, just over a week after he was killed while sitting in a car right outside his home. • FORMER eNCA journalist Samkele Maseko said there was a “culture of fear” at eNCA under the management of its former director of news, Kanthan Pillay. ETHEKWINI Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda has angered the founder and event organiser of Mr and Miss Indoni Cultural SA, Dr Nomcebo Mthembu. Kaunda was billed as a guest speaker at this year’s Mr and Miss Indoni Cultural SA but pulled a no-show. No apology and no representative was sent on his behalf. The event was held at the Durban ICC on Friday. Host Lebo Mashile announced Kaunda as the keynote speaker. But a few minutes later when she invited him to come forward and address guests, he was nowhere to be found. Lebo then called upon the next speaker, Nomcebo, who wasted no time criticising the mayor and his colleagues. “I’m so disappointed that the Durban officials don’t see the importance of this event,” said Nomcebo. “They accepted the invite and even collected the accreditations, but suddenly…
