rounding the buoy

With the arrival of Spring, it’s time to ready for the coming yachting season and to weigh things up.We’ll have a better idea on how and which markets are performing significantly as soon as we have the results relating to the Dubai and Singapore Yacht Shows representing Middle Eastern and Asian markets. Meanwhile the results obtained from major European and US sources are positive and have shown, once again, that the Italian yachting industry is proceeding with sails drawing full – obviously given the current economic context. The principal Italian groups are currently furthering their expansion into foreign markets by opening up on site local branch offices. A concrete example of this was provided by members of the Italian Sea Group who announced the opening of an office in Fort Lauderdale…

princess yachts 30 m

Princess Yachts presented its new M Class 30 metre yacht at the latest Boot in Düsseldorf. The yacht’s design and project work is all in house. The yacht is true to the yard’s original styling, thanks to the success already obtained by the other models in the fleet. This yacht is both elegant and racy looking in pure British style which blends well with sophisticated albeit contemporary interiors. The interior layouts have been ideally optimised to separate guests from crew as it goes about its daily functions while guaranteeing privacy to the former. The yacht comes with a choice of two separate interior layouts. A three cabin and a four cabin version, both featuring independent crew quarters forward in the bow area. The three cabin version offers a large full beam suite and twoVIP cabins,…

terranova italian yachts 85’

Declared bankrupt in 2010 due to the global recession, the Terranova brand returns to the fore thanks to Italian entrepreneur Massimigliano Zilioli who has taken over the company, changing its name to Terranova Italian Yachts. As in 2006 when the yard presented itself at the then Festival de La Plaisance in Cannes with an 85’ explorer, for its relaunching Terranova Italian Yachts is also betting on an 85 footer: called New Style to distinguish it from its predecessor, it offers new solutions of layout and liveability. The point of departure remains that of a displacement explorer for long cruises, traditional in external design but with interiors in contemporary style and richly fitted out. Compared with the model launched in 2006, the new 85’ has a revisited layout, especially on the upper…

studio cichero trimarano 194’

The new trimaran designed by Aldo Cichero, seems to have stepped out of Star Wars - a futuristic 194’ with a top speed of over 50 knots, driven by three MTU engines. The main one at centre sports more than 4,000 HP while the two smaller lateral ones of 2,500 HP hook up to a booster and two KaMeWa waterjets. This performance is attributable not only to the trimaran’s considerable horsepower but also to the waterlines developed by Andrea Bacigalupo and to the “restricted” weight granted by the use of light aluminium alloy for the hull and a superstructure in Triplast®, a tough and light material patented by Aldo Cichero and first used by Lamborghini for the 1983 Quetzal series. In spite of her appearance, which seems to come from George Lucas’s saga,…

oceanco colosseum 86 m

Colosseum is the name of the new superyacht that Enrico Gobbi’s Italian Studio Team for Design has drawn up for the Dutch shipyard Oceanco. And the name is spot on since the yacht and the world’s most famous amphitheatre, symbol of Rome, are linked by their shared grandeur. Colosseum, with her length of 86 metres and 14 metre beam, certainly makes her presence felt, the whole highlighted by an elegant and modern design in the style that has made Enrico Gobbi’s studio one of the foremost in the sector. The signature is evident in the vertical window like ports and the ‘total black’ terraces of the owner’s and VIP suites. Glass plays a fundamental role in Colosseum’s design not only for the window panelling of the structure, which helps to create…

mulder shipyard 36 m

The Dutch yard Mulder is building up a reputation in the superyacht segment. Having launched the 34 metre “Solis” in 2015 it is ready to follow up with a new 36 metre flagship. Like “Solis”, the new model has been designed to RINA MCA LY3 standards and developed with a contribution from Claydon Reeves Design and Van Oossanen, the former for concept and styling and the latter for its celebrated FDHF (Fast Displacement Hull Form). Built entirely in aluminium on three decks, the 36 metre boasts a modern and balanced design and, with a volume of less than 300 GT, lends herself equally to private and charter use, with the possibility of having a relatively small crew when owner and guests are on board. Powered by twin 847 KW engines, the yacht…
