The new X-Head 1250 cylinder head guards for all 2019/2020 ShiftCam engine models continue the tough polymer protective technology that’s been successfully proven in use over three generations of X-Heads. Designed BY MachineartMoto for the GS, GSA, RT, R and RS, X-Head’s thick, high impactstrength, injection-moulded shell is slightly ductile to prevent breakage. In between the shell and the cylinder head is a thick thermoplastic rubber liner that aids in dissipating impact force while preventing hard contact. Each side mounts easily with three stainless-steel M5 T25 Torx head screws provided. X-Head 1250 covers 70 per cent of the face of the head to protect not only the bottom/front initial impact area, but also the mid part of the cylinder head. Famous motorcycle shapers Deus Ex Machina have taken a Yamaha XSR 700 and turned it into not only a bike that appears to be dirt-ready, but one that is actually capable of churning soil — as proven by its entry into the Swank Rally in Sardinia, Italy. From the basic XSR package, Deus increased the suspension travel by mounting a complete front end from the Super Ténéré 1200, which brings with it a 19-inch front wheel to be offroad compliant. At the rear, an Öhlins shock was fitted with increased stroke, with a narrower rear wheel chosen to accommodate a 150mm tyre. Metzeler Karoo 3s were fitted front and rear. The tank is in hand-beaten aluminium, the seat is handmade, and the front and rear fender and trim are from the Acerbis range.…
