Black spot is a fungal disease specific to roses and all varieties are vulnerable. The disease starts off as dark spots or irregular brown or black blotches on the surface of leaves. Unlike mildew, it gets right inside the leaves. You’ll easily see the black-fringed spots, each surrounded by a yellow halo where the fungus spreads its tiny root-like hyphae through the cell walls into the sap stream below so it can grow.
