If you followed critical discourse in the lead-up to the elections on May 29 this year, you will likely not have heard much discussion on the superficial unity that transcends internal divisions that are supposedly tearing the soul of the ANC apart.
Instead, “amadela kufa”, that is, die-hard ANC members, have self-galvanised to promote a positive image and profile of the organisation.
Frankly, the die-hard ANC members can be carved into two groups. The first group are Haves, that is, former presidents, Cabinet members, premiers, MECs and other members who have been co-opted into the capitalist economic system. This group have gone out of its way to campaign and mobilise support for the ANC. They have much to lose if the ANC loses.
