A father and son who have been arrested on charges of human trafficking involving Mozambican nationals have been denied bail.
Cornelis Johannes Uys, 60, and his 23-year-old son, Cornelis Johannes Albertus Uys, have been denied bail by the Belfast Magistrate’s Court.
Mpumalanga provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, said the duo would be back in court on August 22.
“Bail was denied, and the matter remanded to August 22, 2022 for further investigations,” said Sekgotodi.
Previously, the father and son duo appeared in court alongside their co-accused Mozambican brothers, Carlos Bernardo Guambe, 34, and Gabriel Bernardo Guambe, 32.
The four have been charged with contravening the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Act and participating in or conspiring to traffic in persons.
