As the old saying goes, “If you can't explain it to a 6 year old, you probably don't understand it yourself.” Very often, students can solve math problems, however, when asked to explain their “thinking,” or how they arrived at the solution, they are unable to do so. Responses can be scattered or very broad in scope with little attention to details. It becomes even more intimidating when students are required to express their thought processes in writing! These comics, albeit fairly simple in their mathematical concepts, provide an engaging, non-threatening opportunity for students to begin to articulate their math reasoning through writing.
