When you’re a mum, you worry about your children constantly – about them hurting themselves, getting into an accident, falling ill. When my two daughters, Charlotte, now 19, and Sophie, 15, were babies, I knew all about meningitis, the tell-tale rash, stiff neck and aversion to light.
However, those worries calmed down as they grew up. In fact, I didn’t even know that adults could get meningitis… until Charlotte was diagnosed with it when she was 18 years old. Thankfully, she survived, but I want our traumatic story to be a warning to everyone out there.
