Jo Brand is a national treasure - even if, in her own words, she’d rather ‘retain a taint of national disgrace’. Pre-comedy career, the 61-year-old worked as a mental health nurse before starting out in stand-up in the 1980s.
In 1993, she landed Channel 4 series, Through The Cakehole, and since then has worked as a TV presenter, actress and writer – hosting Bake Off spin-off, Extra Slice since 2014.
Married for 22 years, Jo was 38 when she met hubby Bernie Bourke, a psychiatric nurse, at a comedy show. She was in her forties when she had daughters Maisie, 18, and Eliza, 16.
