Ask 12 modelers what the hobby means to them and you’ll likely get a dozen answers. Common answers will include: “I build because I love history.” Or, as a variation: “I build the vehicles I flew or drove.” There are modelers who aim to put together a collection of models from an era or country. Or, as many do, we get a kick out of building a model for a friend or family member or veteran who has a connection to the subject. If you are like me, you love building science-fiction or fantasy. I build all of my models out of paper (with some added details from other mediums), and for a long time, I’ve wanted to build a bulldozer. Recently, I imagined an interesting color combination and decided to get to work. I’ve been building paper models since I was a kid, and now, I even design my own. For my ChTZ T-130, I chose to build a Ripper Works kit because it offered me a chance to relax from the strain of designing my own. I built it with no particular end in mind, letting my imagination run wild, so construction progressed quickly. Gladiataure, a chunky, 10-part, 75mm resin figure, with its exposed arms and muscled torso makes the perfect miniature for demonstrating the painting of realistic flesh tones. Sculpted by Allan Carrasco and Christian Hardy, it comes from Figone. I decided to finish the model as if it were the fearsome Minotaur — a monster that was part man and part bull — who hunted Theseus through the labyrinth in Classical Greek mythology. The model comes with scrap of cloth out front for modesty; but nothing in back (breezy!). I sculpted a bit of cloth from Aves Apoxie Sculpt and Green Stuff just to keep the chill off the beast’s backside.…

Every truck modeler should build at least one model of the legendary Volvo F12. For me, I wanted to depict an old F12, past its prime but still in use. While building the model, I studied thousands (perhaps hyperbole, but still) of photos on the internet and tried to replicate commonalities I saw among those photos on my model. To make this vehicle, I combined an Italeri Volvo F12 kit (No. 751) with an AMT/Matchbox Volvo Globetrotter (No. PK-6130). In the engine compartment, I didn’t go for too much detail.
