As the divorce rumours spread across Twitter like wildfire (unofficial hashtag: #Becksit) and WhatsApp groups were buzzing with friends claiming to know someone who knew someone who knew for a fact the Beckhams’ marriage was over, I was – like most of Britain – transfixed.
