I try and find something to love in every season, but I have to admit, winter starts to get a little tough after the festivities of Christmas are over. Especially in a year like this one, the short, cold days can be difficult, so the early signs of spring are definitely something to be celebrated. Jay and Katja Wilde The stars of BAFTA-winning documentary, 73 Cows, husband-and-wife team Jay and Katja famously sent their herd of cows to an animal sanctuary, as they could no longer face sending them to slaughter. Brazilian brand Future Farm (futurefarm.io) has launched its plant-based, meat alternative products into Sainsbury’s. The range is made up of the ‘Future Burger’, mince, meatballs and sausages, all retailing for £3.89 per pack. The products are made from a blend of peas, soy and chickpea proteins, with beetroot powder added to emulate the colour of meat. They are all gluten-free and free of GMOS. Announcing its 2021 figures, global vegan organisation Veganuary has confirmed that it surpassed its half-a-million target with over 580,000 people signing up to take the pledge. This number far exceeds the 2020 total (400,000), and comes only months after Veganuary announced that it had reached 1 million participants since starting in 2014. Fast food giant McDonald’s has begun testing of its McPlant burger in Denmark and Sweden, according to a report by Bloomberg (bloomberg.com).
