James Wright had read horror stories about the treatment of elderly people in care homes.
So when he moved his mum, Gladys, 79, into one in September 2012, he wanted reassurance that she’d be treated well.
James, 45, put an alarm clock with a secret, motion-activated camera inside it in her room at Granary care home, in Wraxall, Somerset.
Watching the footage back, he saw his terrified mum, who has severe dementia, being subjected to a tirade of verbal and physical abuse by three of her carers – Daniel Baynes, Tomasz Gidaszewski and Janusz Salnikow.
On one of the recordings, Baynes is heard saying to Gladys: “Were you just a nasty, aggressive b***h in another life?”
