OVERLOOKED
Neighbours feel too close for comfort? ‘Enhance privacy with layered planting like pleached hornbeam, tall hedging, or specimen trees inside the garden,’ advises Julian Palphramand, Head of Plants at British Garden Centres. ‘Structures such as pergolas and trellises block views, while climbers on screens add greenery and screen out neighbours.’
WATERLOGGED
A common issue after a hot, rain-free Summer, ‘if you’re seeing lots of puddles on the lawn, start with scarifying it, which will remove dead thatch and moss,’ explains Rob Clarke, Technical Manager, Westland. ‘This helps the water drain, and help nutrients and oxygen reach the roots to improve grass health, too.’ Long term, Julian advises installing soakaways to help water drain.
