You will hear it umpteen times, dear reader, but this is a vital year for this country as the election beckons. The horror-of-horrors spectre of an ANC-MK-EFF coalition is a real possibility, combining ineptitude, expedience and trough-feeding habits with radical excesses and arrogance, and signalling further destruction of the economy.
Dare we hope, however, that this year’s poll will produce an efficient, visionary government with citizens and the economy foremost in mind? A pipe dream, perhaps, but in that case, the country could change remarkably, although with deadwood in some key positions, 30 years of short-sighted ANC governance will be difficult to reverse, certainly in the short term.
