Doctor Who’s Millie Gibson stars as ballet dancer Irene Heron in this new period drama – a fresh take on The Forsyte Saga novels, previously adapted for TV in 1967 and again in 2002 – that follows a wealthy stockbroking clan, members of which are torn between age-old tradition and affairs of the heart.
Irene meets Soames (Joshua Orpin), son of James Forsyte (Jack Davenport), during a chance encounter that leads to a fairy-tale infatuation. Meanwhile, Ann Forsyte (Francesca Annis) rules over the esteemed household, which includes young financier Jolyon Jnr (Danny Griffin), who is married to Frances (Tuppence Middleton) but soon reconnects with his former love, seamstress Louisa Byrne (Eleanor Tomlinson).
