As I write my letter this month, the 38th sexual-harassment scandal has just broken— this time in the classical music world. Over the past several weeks, we’ve seen firings, resignations, apologies, and denials from businessmen, entertainers, directors, producers, and politicians. If we’ve learned anything from this, it’s that the cancer of abuse knows no boundaries, and that the only way to begin to heal is to expose this age-old pattern of toxic behavior. I am a huge believer in transparency—that bringing light into the darkest corners of our lives acts as a true salve. I heartily applaud the many women and men who have shared their stories.
