Los Angeles: Hollywood star and humanitarian Angelina Jolie wants the world to take cognisance of what’s happening with women in the theocratic state under Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.
It’s been a year since the Biden administration, acting on Donald Trump’s order, withdrew US troops from Afghanistan, resulting in the Taliban’s takeover of the country.
Jolie wrote: “One year ago, Afghan women worked as doctors, teachers, artists, police officers, journalists, judges, lawyers, and elected politicians. Afghan children braved repeated suicide attacks on their schools.” She opined that the progress witnessed by Afghan women “has been overturned with unimaginable speed”.
