There are only three certainties in life: death, taxes, and browser pop-ups. These irritating messages appear when you visit a website, usually asking you to sign up for alerts or newsletters. Sometimes they’re downright malicious, tricking you into installing malware.
Google is already blocking some of these (see ‘Protect Your Tech’, Issue 593), but you should also try the browser extension PopUpOff. Version 2 of the tool has an automode which lets you choose how strictly you want to block notifications on individual sites.
