In order to power convincing MR experiences, Apple’s headset is going to need some serious firepower in the chip department. Luckily, the company seems to be going all-in on this, at least according to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo’s supply chain sources have indicated that Apple’s headset will use the same 96W charger as the 14-inch MacBook Pro, meaning it could be just as powerful. The MacBook Pro can be kitted out with either an M1 Pro or M1 Max chip, two of the beefiest chips Apple has ever made. Kuo also believes the headset will use two chips instead of one, something he previously asserted in November 2021. Identify and remove unwanted devices from your Apple ID From MacBooks to HomePods, Apple knows every device that you connect to your Apple ID, so it’s important to check the list in Settings or System Preferences > Apple ID from time to time and remove any devices that you no longer have: many of Apple’s products are limited to a maximum number of authorised devices. Passwords and other sensitive information should be stored safely inside a secure database known as a container or vault, locked with an encrypted key. This key should be difficult – if not impossible – to break: AES 256 is one of the most trusted forms of encryption out there, used by Apple’s own password manager (known as Keychain) as well as most of the third-party tools we feature here. Your secure password container’s encryption key can only be unlocked using your master password (see below for tips on creating a strong one). Before 2001, nobody cared about earphones. Really, they were mere afterthoughts compared to whatever device they were plugged into. The prevailing logic of the time was that earphones should be heard, but not seen. All that changed however when Apple introduced the iPod. Apple has found itself in a dispute with mobile network providers that could result in its iCloud Private Relay service being banned. The service protects user privacy by encrypting Safari web traffic and routing it through several servers to remove identifying details. The saga first emerged in January when US customers of T-Mobile noticed they were unable to access Private Relay. T-Mobile responded that a bug in iOS 15.2 had disabled the feature for some, but this was swiftly shot down by Apple. It then emerged the problem was likely caused by content filtering (like parental controls) used by T-Mobile. iCloud and iMessage Messages in iCloud doesn’t just keep your messages in sync across your devices. It also stores your entire message history in iCloud, including any photos or file attachments – so if you’re running low on storage space it’s a good idea to go into Settings > iCloud > iCloud Storage and have a clear-out from time to time: if you’re an avid Messages user, your months of reaction GIFs and cat videos can end up using a lot of your iCloud storage. iCloud doesn’t just use Apple’s servers to store information; it also uses third-party servers such as the ones from Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform, and of course Apple has no control over other tech firms’ server farms. What Apple can do, though, is make your data impossible for other people to access. Apple encrypts all of its iCloud data transfers and almost all of the data it stores in the cloud. Encryption is a way of scrambling data to make it unreadable unless you have the unique decryption key, and those keys are not shared with anybody. Accessibility settings on the Mac are controlled from the Accessibility pane in System Preferences. It is split into four sections to make it easier to find the setting you need – Vision, Hearing, Motor, and General. You can also choose to show Accessibility status in your Mac’s menu bar.
