My family always teases me about how cross I get over Christmas decorations. Not the fact that they arrive too early in shops or that they’re often tacky and terrible. That bit doesn’t bother me. My typical day... I’ve got a nearly two-year-old, so my usual morning routine is being woken up by her. Taking your Christmas lunch outdoors is an easy way to bring a laid-back feel to proceedings, plus you’re further away from a view of all the preparation dishes stacked by the sink! Ginger cookies MAKES 30 PREPARATION AND COOKING TIME 1 hour 125g butter, softened ½ cup golden syrup ½ cup brown sugar, firmly packed 1 egg yolk 2½ cups plain flour 1 tbsp ground ginger 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1 Beat the butter, syrup and sugar together in a medium bowl with an electric mixer until creamy and pale. As a mum of two school children, this article really resonated with me as I regularly have to remind them when they’re learning something new that it takes patience and practise, practise, practise! Mounting evidence suggests that direct experience with nature offers a wide range of health benefits and more than just an enjoyable pastime or, for some of us, a nagging chore – gardening in particular can transform us both mentally and physically.
