The British Museum in London, frequently accused of displaying looted treasures, has solicited the public’s help in finding artifacts stolen from its collection over the years. Of some 2,000 items first reported missing in August and valued in the millions of pounds, 60 had been returned to the museum by late September, and 300 more were in the process of retrieval. STOLEN ITEMS The missing artifacts, which were not on public display, are dated from the 15th century B.C. to the 19th century, and include gold jewelry and semiprecious gemstones. As House Republicans convened their first hearing of an impeachment inquiry nominally against President Joe Biden, it was pretty obvious that their program was designed to agitate partisans, not persuade Americans. In fact, House Oversight chairman James Comer all but confirmed as much during that Sept. 27 session. “We want to present evidence,” the Kentucky Republican said as the day began. To be a U.S. teenager in 2023 is both the same as it ever was, and astoundingly different from even a generation ago.
