THE recent statements by Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa and his political party, the ANC, and others calling on Miss SA Lalela Mswane to withdraw, for political reasons, from the Miss Universe pageant, amount to bullying.
They are also using her as a political pawn in our murky or non-existent foreign policy on Israel.
Like her predecessors, Mswane is scheduled to compete against her peers for the coveted title at a ceremony in Israel next month. However, Mthethwa, the governing party, Cosatu and pressure group Africa4Palestine suddenly demanded her withdrawal, for moral and political reasons.
