Logically, this is easy: the new Diavel is far better dynamically, better equipped and better value, is slicker and gruntier than before and, in this S trim, is like comparing a Formula 1 car to a Ford Cortina. But the 1260’s fuelling, in Sport mode, again slightly annoys (it did on the Pikes Peak, too) and its authenticity as a US-style hot rod – in many ways the Diavel’s now more like a Monster with a fat rear hoop – is questionable. But the FXDR, although it looks decent, delivers as a traffic light blaster and has (some) charm ultimately disappoints. It’s needlessly uncomfortable, has limited practicality, is sparsely equipped and offensively priced. If you want a Harley ‘rod’ get a Fat Bob or Breakout instead.
