Eleven years ago, Steve Jobs pulled the first version of this laptop out of a manila envelope, and the world gasped. Well, OK, a room full of journalists was mildly impressed. How could a computer be so thin and light? Within a couple of years, loads of other computers were also thin and light. Then, in 2015, the 12in MacBook arrived and was even thinner and lighter, with a sharp new Retina screen. Which left the MacBook Air looking like someone might as well pop it back in that envelope and return it to 2008.
“Beautifully made, with smooth software, but lacks power” In fact, it stuck around, as a cheaper option with slightly better performance, using Intel’s proper laptop processors rather than the low-power Y-series chips in the 12in.…
