In a report under the review period April to August 19 this year presented by the police ministry to Parliament’s portfolio committee on police, it was highlighted that there was a total of 90 201 backlogs, of which the Western Cape follows Gauteng’s 53 327 cases. There were reports that the police were looking for the driver last week, as a witness said he saw three people in the car before the driver allegedly fled the scene after the accident. The driver is said to have lost control of the vehicle and drove into a rock on Victoria Road, Bakoven near Oudekraal, according to the police. Dubai: Dubai authorities yesterday confirmed they have arrested one of Italy’s most wanted international drug barons and his right-hand man, after years on the run. The first was Netflix reminding me that it was the first anniversary of its broadcast of ‘the Last Dance,’ the excellent 10-part documentary on the Chicago Bulls’ championship years in the 1990s. It is widely regarded as having enhanced Michael Jordan’s legacy, as one of the greatest basketball players ever and one of the most influential athletes of any era. The National Treasury yesterday confirmed to Parliament that the recently signed wage agreement with 1.2 million public servants would cost the fiscus R20 billion in the 2021/22 fiscal year. Treasury director-general Dondo Mogajane said the wage agreement would have an impact on the fiscus, because it was over and above the compensation ceilings that had been tabled in February. Some of her body parts were found in a suitcase dumped in the street not far from where she shared a room with her boyfriend Alutha Pasile, 25, in Quigney, East London. SEOUL: South Korea’s childbirth rates hit a record low in the first half of this year, fueling concern about the so-called demographic cliff, statistical office data showed yesterday. The number of newborn babies stood at 136 917 in the January-June period, down 3.5 percent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea. BANGKOK: Thai authorities yesterday hunted a group of police officers wanted for allegedly suffocating a drugs suspect to death with a plastic bag in an incident captured on camera. An investigation was ordered after video footage of the incident went viral on social media.
