Not everyone wants the complexity or cost of a flagship adventure bike, with its extreme performance, excess bulk, ton of tech and premium price tag. So in the last few years BMW’s F850GS, Honda’s Africa Twin and Triumph’s Tiger 800 have spearheaded a proliferation of more affordable, less demanding, mid-sized adventures.
And for 2019, Yamaha’s Ténéré 700 and KTM’s 790 Adventure R debut at opposite ends of the class: the Ténéré is effectively an entry-level offering with basic spec at a keen price, while the KTM is hardcore, tech-heavy and costs more.
